Room Colors

Being in rooms with blue walls totally makes me anxious. I blogged about this before on my old blog, but recently my blue wall anxiety came back! It all started at a doctors appointment (during my pregnancy) when I was seen in a different exam room. The walls in this room were a blue/gray, and I immediately felt uneasy and anxious after a minute or two of being in there. That color seriously messes with my sanity. Weird, right?! Thank God I was only in that exam room twice during my entire pregnancy. Then, last week we were house sitting for my dad who has navy blue tile and walls in his bathroom. BLUE OVERLOAD. I thought I was going to lose my mind. This time, I felt less uneasy but more trapped and claustrophobic. Generally, when I think of being in a blue room, it makes my skin crawl. (This excludes bright blues, green/blues, and turquoise rooms for some reason.)

My wall color phobia does not stop there. My parents have a small living room with red furniture and a yellow wall. Maybe it's the combo of the 2 colors, but I rarely will go into that room. The yellow is too mustardy and reminds me of vomity bile or something. Plus the brightness of the room is screaming "BE HAPPY IN THIS ROOM" and I just don't enjoy that forced cheerfulness. I planned on painting Isla's future room a yellow/pink combo...but the yellow has to be brighter, or lighter, or something. Yellow is one of my favorite colors, which makes this even more bizarre.

Yep, I seriously might be crazy.

Ohhhhh Walmart.

Only at Walmart...

Large man yelling into cellphone: "THERE ARE NO 3 CELL PRISONS DUDE. I'VE BEEN INCARCERATED. I DID MY TIME. I KNOW THAT SH*T. THERE AINT NO WAY THAT'S TRUE."

Lady with spikey mullet riding one of those wheelchair/cart things: "Oooops. I dropped my gum on the floor. Haha." (Proceeds to pick it up off the floor and put it in her mouth.) Eeewies.

I have a love/hate relationship with Walmart. I love that I can wear my jammies, throw my hair back, wear no make up and STILL be one of the best/most normal looking people there. I hate watching the weirdos roaming around...assulting my eyeballs with their spandex and kitty cat shirts. The Walmart in town has definitely improved since I last shopped there back in 2002. The clientele, however, has not. You can fancy up the Walmart, but you will still get the same people coming back for more.

Obviously Target will always be my lover...Walmart will just be my sloppy side boyfriend who I see when I'm lazy.

I gave in.

Don't worry. This does not mean she will actually ride horses. I'm just trying to give my kid some life experiences :)

Things I learned this week...

1. Isla is terrified of grass. I plopped her down twice to play with her outside and she immediately started crying. I tried getting her to touch it with her hands and toes, and she absolutely hated it!

2. I cannot get out of the house and function like a normal person before 10am. Isla's 9am music class is very fun, but I'm never awake enough to get myself dressed and presentable. Isla always looks cute though :) And thankfully, there was no tantrum this week in class! Woo!

3. I have no self control when it comes to cookies. My friend Katie baked us some yummy chocolate/peanut butter cookies and brought them to our Thursday play date. I ate 5 of them on the way home. YIKES! Seriously?!

4. Having a teenager is hard work. I watched my 15 year old sister this week, and my life was much more chaotic.

5. My child is hilarious. She makes me laugh out loud on a daily basis :)

6. I am REALLY lazy. There is no food in our house and I just can't make myself go shopping. I MUST go tomorrow; we literally have beer, 1 mikes hard lemonade, water, mt. dew, 1 piece of cheese, and condiments in our fridge. Why is grocery shopping so horrible??

7. Isla can eat Cheerios (and not choke)!

8. Yoga is lovely. I'm so excited for my new awesome hobby!

I'm about to lose it..

You may have seen my original plea for help on facebook regarding Isla's night time feedings. I'm seriously about to lose my mind. She has been waking up between 12-1am and 4-6am for 6 oz each feeding. This cannot be normal for an 8 month old. At her 6 month visit the doctor said she does not need to be eating at night anymore, so I'm wondering if maybe I'm not feeding her enough during the day?

Isla has anywhere from 24-32oz of formula per day. For breakfast I've been feeding her a small bowl of rice cereal and a tub of baby food (fruit). Lunch is probably the meal where I'm totally failing...because sometimes she eats food, sometimes she just takes a bottle. It depends on her mood and our schedule. She has at least has 6-8oz of formula for lunch, and often 1 tub of baby food. For dinner she either has 2 tubs of baby food (veggies) or she has 1 tub of baby food and green beans. Green beans is as far as I've gone with introducing table food.

Anyway, I thought this was enough food, but maybe I'm wrong?? I just don't know why else she'd be waking up so hungry twice a night, when she previously slept the entire night through.

I previously blogged about giving her 3 oz, then 2 oz, and then 1 oz....but that didn't work as I had hoped. She was fine taking 3 and 2 oz, but she woke up more frequently at night for more. The 1 oz bottle was essentially a joke, and she screamed immediately after she finished it until I gave her more.

HELP! What should I do? Part of me wants to just go in and comfort her without bringing a bottle...but I would have to endure nights of screaming. Plus if she really is hungry, I don't want to torture her! Thoughts/suggestions/volunteers for night time feedings are appreciated!

The house almost exploded. Almost.

Andy, Isla, Torii, and I are house sitting/babysitting Kaley for my dad while the fam is in Florida. I was invited to Florida, but had to pass due to my fear of planes and the fact that I don't fit into a bathing suit.

Anyway, all day yesterday I kept thinking that I smelled natural gas. My family has a gas stove, so I kept telling myself it was normal to smell a little gas. As the day went on, I couldn't shake the nagging suspicion that something might be wrong. I finally opened up the cabinets under the stove, and that is when I smelled a lot of natural gas. After a million unanswered calls to my dad and Donna, I finally decided to call Nicor and have them come out.

One hour later, I find out my dad had a pretty significant gas leak on both ends of his stove! Thankfully, Nicor was able to fix it immediately. They said had the house been left empty for a week or so, there was the potential for explosion due to the amount of gas that was leaking. HOLY CRAP! I wouldn't be surprised if that had been leaking for a while. Nothing gets fixed in this house, and no one really pays attention to things around here.

Of course, my dad has no CO2/natural gas detector in his home. I wouldn't be surprised if his smoke detectors aren't working. So today, I am buying him a CO2 detector and testing all of his smoke detectors. It drives me nuts that I am the one doing this. I don't even see a fire extinguisher in this house. And very obviously, there are no emergency kits anywhere ;)

To make matters worse, Andy and Tom both smelled natural gas Monday night and never did anything about it! To be fair, we were grilling out, and I'm sure they thought it was from the grill, but still. There was no follow up, no thinking twice about a potential gas leak.

I guess my brain works differently than others. Being such a worrier, I immediately think gas leak. I just wish I wasn't the only one worrying!

My BIG Girl!

I am reminded every single day that my baby is no longer really a baby. I mean, technically, yes she is, but she is so independent and so mobile that she's leaning more on the toddler end of the spectrum. She has the fastest crawl I've ever seen. She's stands all the time (still holding on to things). She cruises the furniture....often taking a step or 2 without holding on to anything to get from the ottoman to the couch. She just started eating table food yesterday (she was probably ready a few weeks ago, but I have a major choking fear and I was totally holding off!). She gives kisses by opening her mouth and then sticking out her tongue to lick us. She shakes her head "no" when she doesn't want something. She "talks" all of the time. She prefers "reading" books to playing with other toys. Just yesterday she used one of her large toys as a step stool in an effort to get herself up onto the couch to steal Torii's bone. Thankfully, I caught her before she tried hurling her body up towards the dog. Her newest "tricks" are showing us "SO BIG" and clapping when you ask her to. I have no idea how this all happened so quickly!

Baby Isla: (2 weeks old)

Big Girl Isla: (8 months old)

Before I know it, she'll be 1! Ohhhh I hope the time doesn't go by too quickly.
