Baby Names!

When we were choosing names for Isla, I was adamant that we pick a name that we would actually call her. Why did my parents name me Elizabeth when they never intended on actually calling me that?! It's ridiculous. We really liked Emylia, but I knew I'd call her Emmy--so we scratched Emylia from the list and just kept Emmy. In the end, obviously we went with Isla, a name that I thought wouldn't be shortened. Little did I know I'd give her a million nicknames...it's rare that I actually call her Isla. Here is what my little munchkin responds to:

Isley-Butt

Isley

Bubs

Bubber

Bubby/Bubbies

Buddy

Pretties

Isla Elizabeth

Isla Pretty-beth

Lovies

I have never been a big nickname person, so I have no clue where this is coming from. I also use some of those nicknames for our dog (bubbies and lovies). Nothing like using generic nicknames that can be used interchangeably between my dog and child.

Now that we are wanting baby #2, and I'm convinced I will have another girl, I can't think of a good middle name for Emmy. It cannot be a 2 syllable middle name (as Emmy and our last name are both 2 syllables). Also, it must have some sort of special meaning to Andy and I....I don't want it to just be a random name (although that would be much easier!). So now I'm wondering if we should go with Emylia because then 1 and 2 syllable middle names would be acceptable.

Yes. This is what I think of in my spare time. I don't have many hobbies. I am very particular about "name flow". Andy's names are all 2 syllabol names and it irks me. I've got a 4, 3, 1 flow (not including my hyphened name...I never go by my full last name.).

I also am a strong believer in having a name picked out by the ultrasound date. As soon as I know what the baby is, I neeeeeeeeeeeeed to call him/her by that name. I don't see the need in seeing the baby first like some people prefer. I think everyone grows into their name. Well, I really can't imagine Isla being a Yolanda or Shakira. But, you know...within reason.

You may be wondering if I'm pregnant...and the answer is NO! Not yet. But that won't stop me from figuring out names and planning the baby's future nursery. I really blame Suzi for my serious baby fever. After seeing adorable pictures of Kellen, I am consumed with baby thoughts!

I'm glad Kellen intensified your baby fever! He is quite the little man, I must admit! I agree with the syllable thing. With Kellen, its 2-2-1; there needs to be an odd number in there. Sending baby thoughts your way!

You are too funny! I am 17 weeks along and we have no idea on names yet (we have throw a few around but we are not even close to actually totally agreeing on yet)! I love the name Emmy though - for a girl I really wanted Ava but Frankie's neice is Eva and that is just too similar!! Have fun talking names, that is exciting and good luck with getting pregnant (and have fun trying)!!
