The Fussles
Fussles is our nickname for Isla when she is really fussy. Often her fussiness is rated on a 1-10 scale basis. (Today, I've got a stage 8 Fussler. It's intense. Thank GOD she's napping right now!) Anwyay, she recently discovered the fine art of throwing tantrums, and I'm at a loss for how to handle it! Any time Torii takes one of her bones away from Isla, Isla begins screaming. Any time Isla can't reach something, she immediately stomps her feet and begins crying. This morning, she wanted my apple, and when she couldn't get it she threw herself onto the floor and proceeded to have a very dramatic tantrum. Later, she did the same thing when I wouldn't give her my cell phone. I can get her to stop crying by distracting her with a book or a toy, but I'm not sure how much attention I should be paying to her during these tantrums. I don't want her to think crying and screaming is a good way to get attention. I seriously didn't think I'd be dealing with tantrums at 8 months old! I can't even imagine what her "terrible twos" will be like.

I once read that distractions are teh best way to stop tantrums until the kid is old enough to remember what they were throwing the fit about in the first place. That's when you can ignore the tantrum :) So far it's worked pretty well for Lincoln. He still throws major temper tantrums and he doesn't care if it's at home or in public, but for the most part it's because he just can't communicate what he wants yet.
Give Isla a hug for me! I miss you guys!
I've read the same thing Liz... she's too young to understand right now. Rather than ignoring, or giving in, you find or do something else to distract her with, that takes her mind off the bone, or apple, or what have you.
Ugh, does not sound fun though. Gus has started little versions of "tantrums", mostly when he's tired, he just has less patience. Good luck buddy!
Tantrums are no fun but I think the girls are right, she is just getting frusterated becuase she can't comminucate what she wants. Hang in there! And just as an FYI - Terrible Two's are nothing, Terrible Three's are the worst!
Thanks, Ladies! I'm glad distractions are the way to go. I would have felt awful ignoring her!!
