Sick Day.

Being a stay at home mom is tough.  The worst part of the job is having no sick days.  Normally Andy would stay home and attempt to work while watching the kiddos, but he had so many meetings yesterday that he absolutely could not stay home.  Ugh.

Anyway, this is how my day started out:

Oh God.  I know.  Horrifying.  My lovely husband snapped this photo after attempting to wake me up multiple times.  Once I was awake, I stumbled downstairs and went through the motions of being a mom.  Both kids had new diapers and were fed.  Thank GOD Brevin fell asleep around 11 and took a 3 hour nap!  Sadly, Isla fell asleep at 1:50 leaving me 10 minutes of alone time before my little man woke up.  Grrr.  Those damn kids.  I swear they planned it.

Anyway, this is what a sick day looks like at my house:

Take it all in.  The TV is on.  My enormous bra is on the floor, the kids jammies are on the floor, and Isla has pulled out almost every single toy in the entire house.

My child has no clothes on.  Her lunch is in that purple cup (A cheese stick, breakfast bar, and pretzels.  Fancy and nutritious!)  If you look closely you will see 3 empty juice boxes on the couch.  But there were freaking 5 juice boxes laying around our living room.  5!!  She normally gets 1 a day.  I was so lazy I just left the box of juice boxes on the counter and she'd go grab one when she was thirsty.   Bad parenting at its finest.

Anyway.  We all survived yesterday.  I'm just happy no one called CPS.

Okay I was at my desk laughing out loud at this post! That first picture is hilarious. And the rest of the post pretty much sums up my life lately! Being sick sucks when you have kids to care for and I can totally relate about the super healthy lunch and overdose on juice boxes... I think there was one day that Colton had cereal for all 3 meals becuase that was all the energy I had in me. And Mason just wandered around the basement doing whatever it was he pleased while I laid on the couch just trying to stay alive. I am glad you got through it and more importantly both the kids survived the day as well!

Hahahaha! Sorry to laugh at your misery, but oh man I have so been there. Not with two kids yet though... dun dun dun. I hope I can continue to avoid that situation for the near future.

Also I love Isla's lunch. Actually doesn't even seem that out of the ordinary for a toddler, sick mama or not. ;) We were at my MIL's house yesterday for lunch and Gus ate two pieces of broccoli . And that is it. Because an hour earlier he had had two icecream bars... Sometimes you just have to say, whatevs.

Such a nice husband you have to take such a picture. I love Andy. I miss you guys!

Oh Bets, that picture made me chuckle. NOT that I'm laughing AT you or your misery, just that Andy captured quite the deep sleep picture. How do you sleep on your face like that??

The thought of being sick and having to deal with two children is overwhelming to say the least. Kudos to you and all the other mothers that do it, and get through it, and move on to better and brighter days! Hope you are feeling better!

Oh, I am laughing so hard.

This reminds me of the time I was sick in bed with morning sickness and John stood at the foot of my bed demanding,

"What are we having for supper?"

Jay was working a lot, and he hadn't been home.

I ventured, "Apple Jacks?"

He groaned, "We had that already for breakfast AND lunch."

I felt like an especially horrible mom, a true failure. Here my pregnancy was compromising the nutrition of the already-born children.

Good LOR-ed.

Lighten up, Val.

My mom told me her little brother grew to six feet tall on Rice Krispies.

You see the height of John?

They all survived quite nicely.

Even on Apple Jacks.

Oh, motherhood is not pretty.

Apparently the kids sassed off to my own MOTHER today.

Grandma generously comes to watch them when I go to work, for like an hour at the most, two days a week. She does this nuisance errand on our behalf.

She brings Little Debby and gummy worms and they smarted off to her.

Appalling.

In the morning we're going to have a conversation about this.

Yah.

love, Val

Thanks everyone :) Glad to hear I'm not the only mom who resorts to ridiculous meals when desperate! I'm happy I could look back on my sick day and laugh. That picture is truly horrifying. Andy snapped another equally terrible one a few weeks ago. I may have to share it.
