Spirited, with a dash of easy.

In the book, The Happiest Toddler on the Block, the author says 3 out of 4 toddlers will fall into one of the three categories:

Shy
Easy
Spirited (aka hyper/crazy)

He claims 1 out of 4 babies will be a mixture of 2 or all of these traits. The books gives descriptions of each and also gives a little "test". If you were to walk into a mall, put your kid down next to you, and then turn your back on him/her for a second...what would he/she do? Cry and grab your leg? Wait patiently next to you? Or bolt? My kid will bolt. No question about that. Isla most certainly falls into the spirited category, with a dash of easy. She easily adapts to new routines and for the most part is a "go with the flow" kid. Although she has an incredible amount of energy, she loves running off and playing with new friends, and she has quite the temper. I was a very shy baby, but I'm sure my husband was an outgoing baby. I love that Isla has developed quite a funny and sociable personality. At parks she will run up to other kids and want to play. She has no fear and prefers to do things by herself...she even tries to put on her own shoes when we go outside. She hates being in her floaty and being held in the pool now. She wants to swim on her own. She probably would reconsider if we actually let her try :) Her braveness is beyond me. When we are at the spray ground, she will take off on her own. I sit on the side and watch her. She comes back to me when she wants to, but doesn't like or need me to follow her around. Gosh, she is totally a Leo.

My spirited child definitely keeps me busy. I guess that's what I get for chugging Mt. Dew during my pregnancy :)
