My Big Girl!

Alternate title: A mom rambling about her kid.

Phew. The transition to whole milk has been a success. Isla refused to take it at first, so we mixed it with formula and gradually lessened the amount of formula each day. Now I need to tackle her bottle addiction. We have drastically cut back bottles and she is drinking from a sippy cup during the day, but her morning bottle (between 8-11oz!) and her bedtime bottle (6oz) have become such routines that it has been difficult to give these up...both for me and her! I've been hesitant to fully commit to bottle free living...and I know I'm going to have to get rid of it sooner than later. I told myself after she got used to whole milk I'd deal with the bottle...so I guess it's time.

Isla has also figured out how to eat from a plate! This was quite the challenge for us. I bought 3 different types of plates and we had success with this one. I thought the suction cup plates would be awesome...but they didn't hold suction for long enough! Don't judge my boring lunch! The kid loves green beans and peas :) She also loves broccoli but I figured we'd save that for dinner :)

Isla will not smile in a picture...as shown above. She is the most smiley, happy baby until I whip my camera out. Then I get death stares. I'm not sure how to get her to start smiling!

Isla has been saying "What's that?" and pointing at everything! It's her first real words, aside from mama, dada, and da (dog). I love it! She's also been trying to put on her shoes and clothes, and any type of hat on her head. Since she isn't able to actually do this yet she gets really frustrated! I love that she is trying though!

My very favorite new development is Isla's dancing! Just recently she busted out some sweet dance moves and I nearly died of excitement! Her main move is just a basic sway with some head bobbing. She has been known to do a sway-bounce-head bop combo. I am going to try to record her dancing soon.

So yeah, that's what's been going on around here. My little buddy has been keeping me busy...and with her decision boycott afternoon naps, my day has become a whole lot longer!

Boring lunch? It could be a whole lot worse, just be happy she will eat her veggies without throwing a fit!! As long as it isn't oatmeal cream pies and cheetos for lunch I am sure she will be fine! As for the bottle thing, I don't think we fully took away bottles until Colton was about 16-17 months old. He used sippy cups during the day and with meals but before bed we still gave him a bottle. And then one day we just packed them up (he helped) and we never looked back. It was much easier than I expected (I think it was really me who didn't want to let go of them more than him)!!

Also I love that she gives you the death stare, it is comforting to know that my kid isn't the only one who becomes difficult when the camera appears!!

Oh man, I haven't even thought about weaning from the bottle yet, totally not there yet at all. I say what's the hurry? She's still a baby!!

I've always thought moms should follow their instincts, if you are hesitant to fully committ to getting rid of those two bottles in the morning and at bedtime, for the sake of your baby and her routine/comfort, then I wouldn't push it yet. You know best, I don't put too much weight on what the "experts" say. Or maybe I'm just in denial about our babies turning one? ;)

Sweet plate! I will have to seek one out when the time comes for less crazy mealtimes! (I've still got a hard-core food thrower, so we really are just focused on making mealtimes as stress-free and fun for all parties.)

Isla's pediatrician totally freaked me out. She basically said, "No more bottles and no more formula...start now!" She was surprised Isla was still drinking from the bottle full time at 1! I didn't think that was weird and I'm happy to know you both agree :) I think I'll go easy on the bottle weaning...Isla was majorly out of sorts yesterday and wanting nothing but her bottle. I guess I don't really need to rush this!
