Friday started off as a lovely summer day. Storms were predicted in the late afternoon, so instead of going grocery shopping I decided I neeeeeded a Jimmy John's sandwich for lunch. Around 3:00, Isla and I headed out to Jimmy Johns, which is a 4 mile drive from my house. Immediately we got stuck in bad traffic. It took us 30 MINUTES to drive 4 miles. I didn't even actually get to Jimmy John's because the traffic for the left turn lane was backed up for almost a mile. I was done waiting so I headed the opposite direction to go to Subway. I was super annoyed at this point because there is a Subway 6 blocks from my apartment and I was really craving the yummy avacado spread at JJ's. Oh well. As I'm driving to Subway I'm noticing the clouds starting to roll in, so I am trying to make this a super quick trip. On our way home as I'm driving down York Road the sky becomes BLACK. Literally in 5 minutes. I started to freak out at this point, and then out of nowhere the winds pick up and start blowing debris all around, and branches start flying off of trees. Something hit the side of my car and I went into full panic mode. Traffic was at a dead stop because of a train up ahead. There was 1 car blocking my turn onto the street that leads to my dad's house. I started honking frantically to get the guy to move up a bit so I could turn. Thankfully he did and I raced down the street that was already littered with large tree branches. I saw a little boy on his bike and I was so scared for him. He looked terrified. Just as I got to my dad's house it started pouring and the wind was crazy. I ran inside, gave Isla to my step mom and ran back outside to move my car (I was afraid our basketball hoop was going to fall over on it).
By the time Isla and I were inside and safe my whole body was shaking. I truly thought a tornado was coming, and for a few seconds I thought we were going to die. It was awful. I felt much safer at my dad's house than I would have felt in my 5th floor apartment, but I hated knowing that Torii was at the apartment by herself.
When the storm let up, I got a call from Andy saying his flight was cancelled. He wasn't coming home from Florida until the following day at 5pm. Ughhhhh. I missed him and I was so tired of taking care of Isla by myself! Thankfully Abb came down for a movie night, and we rode out the following storms in the apartment together.
I'm totally a baby, but I hate storms. I had my emergency kit sitting by the door in case we needed to bolt to the basement. Luckily, the following storms were less severe, and I did not die in a tornado as previously thought. Phew.

Oh my god, I am the same way! Terrified of storms and convinced that every tornado warning that pops up on TV has to be for us. It is really sad and I don't want Colton to be so afraid of stroms but I have a really hard time hiding my fears! Glad to hear you guys made it home safe.
I totally LOVE that avocado spread. Though I don't know that I would go out in a storm for it. Glad you were close to your dad's that you could get off the road!
