Isla has started refusing almost all baby food. Even her favorite, squash, is a no go. She shakes her head back and forth so frantically, like I was trying to feed her poison. She has still been eating some of the weird combos...like chicken, rice, and carrots. Eeewwies. Those really gross me out. This baby food boycott is making meal time a bit harder. This morning she had green beans, cheese, and cheerios because I have nothing else she can eat in this house! My diet is pretty limited, therefore, hers also is. Mainly because I try to buy things that we can both eat. Here is what she has been eating: watermelon, grapes (cut ridiculously tiny!), green beans, carrots, shredded cheese, Cheerios, baby puffs, noodles, broccoli, and bananas. Very little variety! I'm worried she'll get bored pretty quickly. Any suggestions on good, non chokable food for a 9 month old (aside from beets)??
Isla's still in the 91st percentile for weight (22lbs) and 96th for height (29inches) so despite her limited diet she is still gaining weight and remaining huge. Her big melon is only in the 88th percentile, which I find rather shocking. It's probably due to her flat spot :) Isla's pediatrician commented on how ahead of the curve she seems to be for development as well. It's a blessing, and a curse. I love watching her become more independent each day, but I wish she could stay a little baby for longer. She took her first 3 steps at baby music class on Friday. Watching all of the other kids walking has really motivated her. I'm pretty positive she'll be walking within a few weeks...but I'd love it if she'd hold off until she's 1!!! I know that won't happen though. Ughhh where did my little baby go?!

We started giving Gus table food, and now he totally refuses all the good baby food I made! He pushes the spoon away and purses his lips, as if to say, "Hell no mama! I feed myself now!" What in the heck am I going to do with all those cubes of baby food? Frustrating.
Anyway, so we haven't been going much farther than you with the tablefoods, but since this new development, I've gone shopping and stocked up. Mostly lots of frozen vegetables and fruits (broccoli florets, carrots, brussel sprouts, green beans, peas, peaches, blueberries...) and some canned stuff like mandarin oranges in light syrup. I rinse the oranges to try to remove as much of the sugary syrup as possible.
Gus also seems to like Avocado. Super easy, you just cut it in peaces, or strips.
Also I've cooked up sweet potatoes (baked in the oven, in tin foil) and then instead of pureeing them, I cut them in cubes, added some cinnamon, and put them in ice cube trays to freeze, then store them in a big ziplock bag. Now I just stick a frozen cube of sweet potato chunks in the microwave for 30 seconds. Super easy.
Oh, and his FAVORITE are waffles and pancakes. I bought frozen ones that I just pop in the toaster, then cut into a few strips. He gums those mothers to death and will eat an entire waffle in one sitting. LOVES them.
Finally, beans. We bought canned kidney beans and chickpeas (garbanzo beans). I cut them in half, and you can give them cold or cook them up in a pan with some seasoning. Gus has constipation issues, so I thought beans might help with that. ;)
Sorry this is so long, but I have been grappling with the same stuff as you buddy, I'd like to branch out, but I'm never sure. The nice thing about frozen stuff is that you can buy it and always have stuff on hand!
Thanks buddy! I never even thought of waffles and pancakes! I'll have to try that. And fruit in light syrup rinsed is also something I should try doing...since I've never once bought regular peaches, and manderin oranges were my fav as a kid. We have so many jars of unusable baby food now, it's ridiculous! Someone should have warned us about the potential for a baby food boycott after table food.
They sell lots of frozen fruit too, just as easy as canned, and way better cause there isn't added sugar. All you have to do is microwave it with some water. =) I think at this time, berries are the only no-no for babies like Gus and Isla. Blueberries are fine, but no strawberries or raspberries.
Alicia gave you some great ideas! Colton loved those pancakes(still does) and manderin oranges are one of his favories (and you can buy them in the individual plastic cups -light syrup and NO sugar added)! Also the bags of Frozen carrots are awesome, you just pop them in the microwave and it steams them so they are pretty much mush, tough for a baby to choke on them! Before you know it she will be asking for pork chops and steaks and everything you eat and you won't have to worry variety.
